Faux wood is a surprisingly easy technique that yields really amazing results. The video tutorial is here on Gina K's "A Day in the Life" blog.
For this card, I made the faux wood, scalloped the top edge using SU's rounded corner punch, and then raised it up on SU dimensionals. The flowers are stamped behind the fence so that they will give the illusion that they are growing. I left the background white, for a crisp contrast, but it would also look lovely with a water-colored sky.
This technique would also look great as a framed border or background paper -- now that Father's Day is looming around the corner, masculine cards are in the planning stages!
